Turns out filling in all the gaps in my Sonic game collection isn’t going to be that easy, some games are particularly expensive, especially with there original boxes.
To start I thought I’d go with something nice and simple fill in some a more recent gap, that being within the last decade.
So I picked up a copy of Sonic Boom Shattered Crystal for the 3DS off of eBay for £15, a little more than I latter found it for in CEX (UK based second hand shop for all those none British people) but at least the copy I got was in really good condition, hardly played as well, save file on there had only got 3 percent on it (aka played the first level).
Now for a bit of history for those who have managed to avoid Sonic Boom (congratulations by the way), this was an attempt around 2014 by SEGA to re-launch Sonic as edgy and cool again re-designing the core cast, adding a new charecter Sticks the Badger and changing up Sonic’s gameplay. There was a real big push behind this, comics, TV show, toys, and multiple games. Unfortunately it all fell apart very quickly, the lead game for the wiiU was glitchy and fans didn’t really take to it. The comic series crashed and burned after only 11 issues and the TV show while actually really good came too late as even SEGA had given up on it by that stage… which some could argue would be why it was so good… check out these videos from someone I know for some fun commentary.
Getting back to the game itself, while not a classic Sonic game, it’s actually not terrible, I’ve been playing it to try to complete, and while it has a few annoyances (constant back tracking) I haven’t thrown my 3DS out a window yet, who knows I might finish it.
So an initial success, next I had a lead on a copy of Sonic Chaos on the Game Gear, box in really good condition but someone beat me to it, the game gear games are going to be difficult as I’ve decided to get them boxed in the best condition possible, which becomes a real challenge when you realise the game gear boxes are all cardboard and it’s been over 20 years since they came out. My wallet might come to regret this.
Now for a bit of luck, out and about last weekend at Western Super Sonic, (yay first Sonic convention since the before times), and a cool second hand shop had a few copies of SonicN at a decent price, and naturally I had to grab one.
For those of you not in the know, SonicN is basically Sonic Advance but ported for the N-Gage, you know that phone Nokia made that was also a games console except it sucked and crashed and burned, still an interesting bit of history and the only physical Sonic game cart that came out for a phone/games console which is neat.
It only gets more difficult from here…
Oh and if anyone spots a problem with the theme selection drop down, I’m looking to fix it, I’ve done a update to the site in the background and some bits may have broke.
I have just been really tired. My sleep schedule has thrown me for a loop. Every time I sit down to do a comic I nod off or get distracted by other projects that have been dragging their fingers across my scalp.
I’m actually plotting something nightmarishly complicated for it. Stay tuned, I’ve not abandoned it. I actually sat down tonight to start doing things and the damned pen was dead. You guys will have something next week.
I am sorry that I have been virtually dead as of late (almost a year in fact, wow). And I mean virtually, not wholly dead yet, working on that apparently through unhealthy soda guzzling, obesity and the like, but still, I’ve been either lost in video games, project hell or watching the collapse of the Country I live in happening in slow motion and real time.
Had Windows 10 (don’t worry, I got better), and outside of banging my head against the wall, I’ve been skipping along with this job I have which gives me no real time to write (found almost 100 errors on something I already passed to Vger to read; only to find about 130 more. Yay! :V )
Showed off my comic to someone who laughed hard for awhile, read some of them myself. I miss doing them, even got scripts written around in here somewhere. Wrote one on a napkin! Lost that, but I remember most of it. I think.
Long and short of it people, I will be attempting to finish Projects on top of and rekindle my love affair with doing the comics. Fully colored mind you, won’t be too lazy. Will piece one together at least once or twice a week, upload it around Wednesday mornings my time, which is on the Western Seaboard, north of that one state that is always on fire.
Just a quick reminder to everyone Summer of Sonic is this Saturday, for those of you that have tickets make sure you log into the Summer of Sonic hub to download them, to those that do not have a ticket I’m sorry but all tickets have gone.
I look forward to seeing you all there… just look for the lanky bearded dude who looks like he’s about to fall over dead… long story involving con flu and heat stroke you can ask if you find me.
So yeah, that was a thing… the party itself seemed… like a thing. Let’s leave it at that and move onto the interesting stuff, the game announcements.
Yes that’s right I used the plural, we ended up with two game announcements.
Early on we got the announcement of Sonic Mania a new 2D sprite based Sonic game mixing up old and new levels in some sort of manic montage of nostalgia and newness. Check out the trailer below it looks good and will launch early 2017 so we don’t have long to wait. Coming to PS4, PC and Xbone.
I’ll admit this threw me, I was not expecting another 2D game, and it’s plugging straight into the nostalgia part of my brain so yeah I am happy.
Much later on we had what I was expecting, a big game announcement from Sonic team, Sonic Project 2017 which looks to be a continuation along similar lines of Sonic Generations in terms of graphics but not Sonic Generations 2 as I repeat from my earlier post, it’s not been long enough for them to justify another Sonic Generations game. Saying that it’s hard to speculate at the moment as so far we have only had a teaser trailer showing off modern and classic Sonic. Which don’t get me wrong looks good, but until I see more I’m on the fence, it could be the next Generations, or it could be the next 06, but one things for sure it’s not Sonic Adventure 3!
