So things are a little out of sorts here right now, plans are in motion for some ‘minor’ repairs.

Turns out filling in all the gaps in my Sonic game collection isn’t going to be that easy, some games are particularly expensive, especially with there original boxes.

To start I thought I’d go with something nice and simple fill in some a more recent gap, that being within the last decade.

So I picked up a copy of Sonic Boom Shattered Crystal for the 3DS off of eBay for £15, a little more than I latter found it for in CEX (UK based second hand shop for all those none British people) but at least the copy I got was in really good condition, hardly played as well, save file on there had only got 3 percent on it (aka played the first level).

Now for a bit of history for those who have managed to avoid Sonic Boom (congratulations by the way), this was an attempt around 2014 by SEGA to re-launch Sonic as edgy and cool again re-designing the core cast, adding a new charecter Sticks the Badger and changing up Sonic’s gameplay. There was a real big push behind this, comics, TV show, toys, and multiple games. Unfortunately it all fell apart very quickly, the lead game for the wiiU was glitchy and fans didn’t really take to it. The comic series crashed and burned after only 11 issues and the TV show while actually really good came too late as even SEGA had given up on it by that stage… which some could argue would be why it was so good… check out these videos from someone I know for some fun commentary.

Getting back to the game itself, while not a classic Sonic game, it’s actually not terrible, I’ve been playing it to try to complete, and while it has a few annoyances (constant back tracking) I haven’t thrown my 3DS out a window yet, who knows I might finish it.

So an initial success, next I had a lead on a copy of Sonic Chaos on the Game Gear, box in really good condition but someone beat me to it, the game gear games are going to be difficult as I’ve decided to get them boxed in the best condition possible, which becomes a real challenge when you realise the game gear boxes are all cardboard and it’s been over 20 years since they came out. My wallet might come to regret this.

Now for a bit of luck, out and about last weekend at Western Super Sonic, (yay first Sonic convention since the before times), and a cool second hand shop had a few copies of SonicN at a decent price, and naturally I had to grab one.

For those of you not in the know, SonicN is basically Sonic Advance but ported for the N-Gage, you know that phone Nokia made that was also a games console except it sucked and crashed and burned, still an interesting bit of history and the only physical Sonic game cart that came out for a phone/games console which is neat.

It only gets more difficult from here…

Oh and if anyone spots a problem with the theme selection drop down, I’m looking to fix it, I’ve done a update to the site in the background and some bits may have broke.

I live, but I find things are so much more difficult now, life gets in the way of my old habits, perhaps it’s for the best though, perhaps it’s time to try something different.

A new challenge perhaps?

Something to test even the great cunning of an Emperor like myself?

But what?

Hmm, I have always meant to complete my Sonic game library, some of which are exceedingly hard to find and expensive now.

Yes this seems like a worthy use of the Emerald Coast coffers and an acceptable challenge to my wit and guile.

I declare the hunt on, challenging myself to complete at least one gap in my game collection per month.

… One final thought before anyone asks, no, I am not going after Sonic Schoolhouse.

For those of you in the know, ‘The British Andy’ and ‘TitansCreed’ have been doing an annual race playing through classic and modern Sonic games to raise money for Special Effect Charity.

2020 is no different, the date of June the 19th starting at 12 am PDT / 2am CDT / 3am EST / 8am BST, for about 14 hours the returning on the 20th and perhaps even the 21st if they meet one of there donation goals.

This race also includes donation ‘incentives’ to torture… I mean help… your favorite player from losing a life to oven mitts… and oh so much more.

If you can’t wait for the big day then you can support them now by heading on over to Steam labs to invest in some fine swag designed by ‘Ram the Dragon,’ items will be available until July the 5th but best to snap them up now to push The British Andy and TitansCreed closer to those ‘special incentives.’

You’ll be able to watch this event live on twitch from The British Andy and TitansCreed account, and who knows who might turn up to turn the thumbscrews… I mean cheer… yes definitely cheer them on.

Okay has everyone calmed down after that surprise? No… take a few more deep breaths…

Now that I’ve had a bit of time to think about custom characters in Sonic it makes sense, for years SEGA has watched as fans create their own custom characters based on the franchise no matter how stupid or overpowered or convoluted they turn out, I am including my own idiotic creations in this (I was young).

So now SEGA have decided to capitalise on this by saying okay you like making fan characters? Here’s a game that you can actually have your charecter play alongside Sonic. It’s pretty much as close as people are going to get to being in the game with Sonic… and let’s be fair there will be some that prefer that to real life. Now all SEGA has to deal with is complaints of why certain species ‘x’ hasn’t been included, I do not envy them, they included hedgehogs but no foxes? THIS IS A TRAVISTY!… and so on.

On the flipside, gameplay trailer looks pretty fun combining the best of what we have seen out of the last few games and what sounds like a kick ass soundtrack, I’m looking forward to seeing more.

Sonic music is no stranger to metal remixes, but I got a kick out of watching all the guitar work in this so enjoy!

Check out Captain Meatshield’s other works here, I’d recommend his Star Trek remix.

Oh and as a note, I’m not dead just busy.
